The Secretary General of the OIC Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has today, 17th January 2007 received in audience at the General Secretariat, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Togo, H.E. Mr. Zarifou Ayeva who was accompanied on the visit by his counterpart in charge of Town and Country Planning, H.E. Mr. Yandja Yentchabre. The Minister who briefed the Secretary General on the latest developments in this country and the West Africa Sub-region highlighted the importance of Islamic Solidarity and the crucial role that the OIC could play in alleviating poverty and raising the level of economic prosperity in Member States. On his part Prof. Ihsanoglu, expressed delight at the timely visit by the Minister and his accompanying delegation and stated his desire to reinforce OIC-Togo bilateral relations. He further urged Togo to play a more active role in Joint Islamic Action and implementation of the adopted OIC Ten Year Programme of Action. The Secretary General and his guests also exchanged views on other matters of common concern.
