OIC Holds First Session of the Ministerial Conference on Social Development

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in coordination with the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services of the Republic of Turkey will hold the 1st session of the ministerial conference on Social Development, under the theme: “Ensuring Social Equality and Welfare for All in the Member States: Opportunities and Challenges”, in Istanbul, Turkey, 7-9 December 2019.

The conference will review and highlight the efforts of Member States, OIC Organs and Institutions in the field of empowering the institution of marriage and the family, the welfare of the child, and issues pertaining to the elderly and persons with special needs.

In implementation of relevant Islamic ministerial resolutions, SESRIC (OIC Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries), in coordination with the OIC General Secretariat, will submit to the Ministerial Conference for consideration and adoption the draft OIC

Strategy on the Welfare of the Elderly and the draft OIC Strategy for the Empowerment of the Family and Marriage Institution (2020-2025).

The 1st Ministerial Conference on Social Development is convened within the framework of implementing the decisions of the OIC Summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers, which have called for holding the Sectorial Ministerial Meeting on Social Development to examine matters that were considered by the sectorial ministerial conferences on the family, child welfare, as well as on wellbeing and social security for the elderly and special need persons.
