The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stressed that the current challenges faced by some Member States in light of the continuing terrorist threats call for continued efforts to address this subversive phenomenon, which has been threatening the security of societies both in the OIC region and worldwide.
Dr. Basheer Ansari, Director of the OIC Voice of Wisdom Center, stated that highlighting the success models in the fight against terrorism and extremism is among the most effective means in this endeavor. This was in the speech of the General Secretariat which he delivered at the opening of the Third Symposium on Member States' Anti-extremism and Counter-Terrorism Efforts held at the OIC headquarters on 16 December 2018.
The Symposium reviewed the experiences of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Turkey in their fight against violent extremism and terrorism and aimed to unify the direction and coordinate the efforts of Member States in this area.
Dr. Ansari indicated that the main objective of holding these symposiums was to introduce and learn about these experiences to benefit from them and disseminate many effective and useful policies and programs among Member States. He stressed the urgent need for the integration rather than competition of these experiences.
It is noteworthy that the Voice of Wisdom Center plans to invite all Member States to present their respective experiences and programs in combating terrorism and extremism that disrupt the peace and economies of the Muslim countries and distort the true image of Islam, which came to spread the message of peace and security between peoples and cultures.
The General Secretariat, represented by the Voice of Wisdom Center, seeks to increase its seminars and consultations to discuss ways to combat terrorism by forging partnerships with international and regional organizations and relevant government centers.
