The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) hosted on 3-4 December 2018, at its headquarters in Jeddah, the Fourth Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC institutions, which concluded its proceedings with a matrix of projects and programs to be executed over the year 2019 through diverse partnerships among the OIC institutions.
The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al Othaimeen, indicated at the close of the meeting that this annual gathering represents a solid platform for the coordination of the procedures taken by the OIC and its institutions in executing the various resolutions issued by the OIC Summit, the Council of Foreign Ministers conferences, and the other sectorial ministers meetings.
The Secretary General further added that the cause of Palestine remains at the top of the coordination agenda of the OIC institutions, and called at the same time for the adoption of a collective approach and effective measures to bring support to the Palestine people in their steadfast resistance and to alleviate their sufferings under the yoke of the Israeli occupation.
Al Othaimeen noted that this annual coordination exercise and the collective review of the initiatives launched by the OIC institutions have had a healthy impact on action undertaken in all fields: political, economic, developmental, cultural, humanitarian and science and technology.
In the closing session, Dr. Bandar Al Hajar, President of the Group of the Islamic Development Bank, addressed the meeting and laid particular emphasis on the need for cooperation and coordination among the OIC institutions. He stated that the OIC and its institutions are faced with a wide range of challenges foremost of which: increasing fragility, unemployment and slow development. He also stressed the need for innovative solutions, expanded partnerships and upgraded cooperation between member and non-member States and civil society institutions.
