The OIC is rallying with the world states in commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, in implementation of the 1977 UN General Assembly’s resolution No. 40/32 on the occasion. The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al Othaimeen, addressed a message to the world, in which he renewed the OIC’s unwavering stand and firm commitment in support of the Palestinian people for the recovery of their rights, including their right to return, to self-defense and to the establishment of their own independent state on their national territory with AlQuds Al Sharif as its capital.
In his statement, delivered on his behalf by the OIC Ambassadors to the UN in Geneva and New York, called on the world at large, its states, organizations and peoples to stand up against the Israeli occupant’s practices that are rooted in colonial settlement and the policies of Apartheid, judaization, and forcible displacement of the Palestinian people. He also addressed anew, the historical, legal, political and moral responsibility that the world community bears collectively towards achieving a just and lasting solution for the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
At the same time, the Secretary General called on all parties in the world community to align their policies, stands, efforts and roles, with the dictates deriving from the commitment to the sovereignty of law, to justice and to the spread of international peace and security, through their genuine and effective involvement in the commemoration of the peace process under a multi-party sponsorship in accordance with a well-defined timeframe and based on international references including the UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, for the implementation of the Two-State Vision, and forwards an end to the historical injustice meted upon the Palestinian people over so many decades.
The Secretary General further renewed the OIC’s support to the efforts and endeavors underway for the achievement of the Palestine reconciliation and the reestablishment of the national unity of the Palestinian people, such as to contribute to the preservation of what has been achieved and to move forward in favour of the recovery of their full legitimate rights.
The General Secretariat is currently making arrangements to commemorate the event, on 5th December 2018, to include a political address as well as the projection of a documentary film and the staging of a photography exhibition to spotlight the Palestinian people’s ordeal under the Israeli occupation, in addition to the cultural space that would include a line of handicrafts, produced by the Palestinian people.
