The Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed appreciation for the $50 million the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated to the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), hailing this generous gift as a manifestation of Saudi Arabia’s sustained political and financial support to the Palestinian people.
Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen said the funding mobilized as of early 2018 has been instrumental in easing UNRWA’s financial crisis. The call is on the international community to continue in the shared responsibility toward the Palestinian refugee issue, Dr Al-Othaimeen underlined. He also invited donors to step up their financial support to the agency, which caters to this large segment of the Palestinian population, until a solution is found to the Palestinian refugee issue under relevant international resolutions.
