The Second OIC Member States’ Conference on Mediation Held in Istanbul

Date: 29/11/2018

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the OIC Member States’ Second Conference on Mediation held in Istanbul on 29 November 2018 in implementation of CFM Resolution No. 53/45 under the theme “Mediation: Challenges and Opportunities”.

The Conference started with the statement of the OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al Othaimeen, delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Youssef Al Dhobei, Advisor to the Secretary General. In the speech, the Secretary General noted that since the conference’s first edition held in 2017, there has been substantial development regarding the OIC’s mediation-related efforts involving the adoption of a first ever OIC resolution on the issue, at the 45th Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, held in Dhaka in August 2018, under the title: “Strengthening the Mediation Capacity of the OIC”. The Secretary General further added in his statement that the resolution offered a powerful mandate for the adoption of an OIC approach that features a greater degree of organization and efficiency in the act of mediation.

The conference witnessed two debate sessions, the first being on “Cases of Conflict in the OIC Zone”, and the second on “Implementing OIC Resolution No. 53/45: The Way Ahead”.
