The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 20 November 2018, at the UAE Foreign Ministry in Abu Dhabi, signed with Sawab Centre, an interactive electronic messaging initiative launched by the UAE Foreign Ministry, a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure synergy of efforts against terrorism and to spread the values of moderation and balance.
The MoU, co-signed by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Gargash and OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, provides for the OIC Sawt al-Hikmah (Wisdom Voice) Centre and the UAE Foreign Ministry’s Sawab Centre to coordinate efforts against extremist ideology through social media. The agreement also sets a common goal to help promote the values of moderation, middle way, tolerance, justice, mutual understanding and peace for all.
The MoU also provides for conducting sensitization activities through conferences, seminars and training sessions aiming to counter extremism propaganda and reinforce shared values of moderation and middle stance. The two parties have also agreed to hold joint social media campaigns that will help refute extremist ideology and ensure a greater understanding of the Muslim faith.
