Qualitative Development in OIC’s Fight against Extremism

Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), stated that the OIC Sawt Al-Hikmah (Voice of Wisdom) Center is preparing for a qualitative development in its performance which would be announced soon. Al-Othaimeen confirmed that the OIC General Secretariat is forging partnerships with the relevant organizations to strengthen Sawt Al-Hikmah.

The announcement came at the opening of the Second Symposium on the Efforts of Member States in Combating Extremism and Terrorism allocated to the efforts of Saudi Arabia represented by three key Saudi centers active in this field.

The Symposium that convened at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat highlighted the KSA efforts in its war against terrorism. Al-Othaimeen noted that the OIC is developing its unique experience to combat terrorism and extremism by reviewing KSA efforts in this regard, especially as it hosts and supervises the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and in light of its international multimodal engagements in combating this phenomenon.

On the role of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (GCCEI) (Etidal, meaning moderation in Arabic), Dr. Sultan Al-Khazzam, Director of GCCEI International Cooperation Department, stated that GCCEI, which began its work in 2017, combats extremism in light of the escalating violence and killings.

In the second session, Dr. Hassan Al Al-Manakhrah, Dean of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Institute for Moderation, briefed the audience on the Center's experience in this regard reiterating that terrorism and extremism have no religion and stressing that the KSA is proud to be the first to establish the concept of moderation.

In the third session, Staff Colonel Abdullah bin Hadi Al-Hajri spoke about the efforts of the Ideological Warfare Center (IWC), pointing out that the world is already living in a state of ideological war.
