In a statement made in Jeddah today, the Secretary General of the OIC, H.E. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu welcomed the appointment of Mr. Fakhruddin Ahmed as the new Chief Adviser to the Non Party Caretaker Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He expressed his confidence that the new caretaker government in Bangladesh will be successful in creating conditions leading to the lifting of the emergency and for the holding of the next general elections in a free, fair, impartial and peaceful manner with the participation of all the political parties. The Secretary General further stated that the OIC was prepared to offer its fullest cooperation to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh and expressed his willingness to send a team of observers at the time of holding of the polls.
