Iraq reconciliation conference preparatory meeting begins on Monday

“Iraq Elite Conference” is to start Monday, 11/12/ 2017, in Baghdad. The conference will be co-organized by the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Reconciliation Commission. It will prepare for the Iraqi National Reconciliation Conference to be held at a date to be determined later line with an OIC initiative aimed at enhancing efforts by the Iraqi government to promote stability and consolidate Iraqi unity and to pursue national reconciliation.

The “Elite conference” will deal mainly with the views and visions of reconciliation among Iraqi intellectuals of different sects in order to enrich political views in national reconciliation discussions as a prelude and a qualitative addition and diversity to the visions of politicians to be advanced at the Comprehensive National Reconciliation Conference.

The two-day conference will consider several topics in six working sessions. The conference will cover the nature of the Iraqi crisis, the religious discourse and its structural impact on the values of coexistence, tolerance and acceptance of the other. It will also highlight the components of national identity, as well as the topic of violence, terrorism, discrimination and hatred, as well as the topic of the national community reconciliation and the requirements for its realization.
