The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Iraqi government are planning to organize the preliminary conference in Baghdad, on 11 December, 2 017 as a prelude to the convening of the Iraqi National Reconciliation Conference to be held as the next step.
The preliminary conference will work on raising ideas and recommendations of the participants to the General Conference of national reconciliation, in order to build such reconciliation on community participation among the various groups and segments of Iraqi society.
The convening of the reconciliation conference will occur at a time in which Iraq will start recovering from the threat of terrorism, after the liberation of all Iraqi territory from the Daesh organisation. It also comes at a time suitable to proceed in a comprehensive national reconciliation leading to a new phase, which accords the utmost importance to the phase of construction, national unity, stability and prosperity.
This preliminary intellectuals conference will be attended by well-known technocrats pertaining various intellectual, cultural and community-based backgrounds, providing all the views needed on the relevant issues, and in order to establish a solid environment for the achievement of the national reconciliation .
Worth noting, OIC had organised the Makkah 1 Conference on Iraqi National Reconciliation, which included sheikhs and religious scholars representing the different spectrums of the Iraqi people in 2006. This gathering was a step towards closing ranks and shoring support for the unity of Iraq.
