As a sign of the great importance attached to the situation in Afghanistan, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will host a meeting of the International Contact Group on Afghanistan (ICG) in Jeddah on Tuesday, 28 February 2017. Delegations from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the meeting.
Formed in 2009 under the auspices of Germany, the ICG on Afghanistan has emerged as a prominent platform where the international efforts and initiatives towards contributing peace and stability in Afghanistan are coordinated. The ICG has regularly met in different countries to discuss issues related to Afghanistan and its peace, security, stability and development.
The OIC had hosted a previous meeting of the ICG in March 2011.
