New OIC Secretary General Thanks Saudi Leadership and Member States

H.E. Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, new Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressed his deepest thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defence, on his unanimous election as OIC Secretary General for a term of five years. It is noteworthy that the Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Makkah adopted this decision on Thursday, 17 November 2016, according to the nomination of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Othaimeen emphasized that this confidence is a major responsibility praying to Allah Almighty to enable him to perform his mission in the service of the Muslim Ummah, promote solidarity among Member States and push joint Islamic action forward.

The new OIC Secretary General appreciated the support of OIC Members States for his nomination. He considered this an acknowledgement of the role of Saudi Arabia and its leadership, its pioneer positon in addressing the issues of the Ummah and promoting its solidarity; and due to the fact that Saudi Arabia is home of the Two Holy Mosques and Kaaba, it is in appreciation of its efforts in the service of pilgrims.
