Under the high patronage and attendance of H.E. President Beji Qaid Essebsi, President of the Republic of Tunisia, the OIC Secretary General, Mr. Iyad AmeenMadani delivered on Thursday an address at the inaugural session of the First Conference of Education Ministers ISESCO (Islamic States Education, Science and Cultural Organization) after H.E. the President of Tunisia delivered his speech. The Conference was held in Tunis on 27 – 28 October 2016 under the theme of “Promoting and Invigorating, Joint Islamic Educational Action”.
The Secretary General recalled in his statement, the principles and foundations underlying the strategy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its specialized organs in the area of teaching and education, pursuant to the resolution issued by the Islamic Summit held in Istanbul, and the Tashkent Declaration adopted by the Foreign Ministers Conference recently held in Uzbekistan It is also basedon the objectives outlined in the OIC program of Action 2025, which calls for the development and updating of the educational curricula, and programs for science and knowledge to keep abreast of the scientific and technological advances, and to embrace the achievements of civilizational and humanitarian values while preserving authentic traditions and noble values of Islam, a religion of moderation and tolerance. Mr. Madani also laid stress on the need to empower youth and integrate them in the developmental programs, employment and productivity so as to protect them against sliding into the path of violent extremism and terrorism.
The Secretary General also paid tribute to ISESCO for its efforts and initiatives towards boosting education, science and culture in the OIC Member States.
