The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on all of its Subsidiary, Specialized and Affiliated Organs that specialize in women issues to participate in a specialist workshop to review the mechanisms of the OIC’s Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW) on 28-29 January 2016 to be held at the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) in Istanbul, Turkey. This workshop is being held as per the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Experts Group Meeting on reviewing the OPAAW that was held in Jeddah at the General Secretariat in November 2015 and also the outcomes of the Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions held in Jeddah in December 2015. In attendance will be experts from the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Statistical, Economic, Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA), and delegations from the OIC offices in Geneva, Brussels and New York along with a delegation from the OIC General Secretariat. It is expected that the outcome of this meeting will provide a more comprehensive vision for the advancement of women, especially in light of contemporary challenges facing women in OIC Member State, and deliver practical suggestions to develop and activate the implementation mechanisms of OPAAW to allow effective monitoring, reviewing and evaluation to achieve desired results.
