The OIC strongly condemns the armed attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation strongly condemned the violent attack carried out by gunmen from Al-Shabab Movement targeting a restaurant in the Somali capital Mogadishu killing at least 20 people and injuring several others. The OIC Secretary General, Iyad Ameen Madani, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Somali Government and families of the victims in the wake of this unfortunate incident and wished the injured speedy recovery. The OIC Secretary General expressed dismay over this armed attack aimed at undermining the stability witnessed by Somalia lately, thanks to the persistent efforts exerted by the Government in cooperation with its partners at the regional and international levels, which were appreciated by international and regional organizations. Madani also expressed appreciation to the security and police forces for the courage they have demonstrated in countering this criminal aggression carried out by terrorist elements from Al-Shabab Movement, which have nothing to do with Islam nor its sublime values. He also underlined that such criminal acts should not discourage the Somali Government from its firm resolve to achieve stability, peace and development in the country to fulfil the interests and aspirations of the Somali people.
