The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, expressed his appreciation to the transitional authorities in the Central African Republic (CAR) following the presidential and parliamentary elections held on 30 December 2015. In this regard, the Secretary General congratulated the President of the transition Catherine Samba-Panza, the Prime Minister, Mahamat Kamoun and all the Government members who worked actively to organise the elections in a peaceful and calm atmosphere in all CAR territories. The Secretary General also congratulated the people of CAR and commended the voters for the maturity they shown on the Election Day, which will put an end to the transitional period in the country. He called on all CAR citizens to work for national reconciliation to enable the country to focus on socio-economic development. Madani also commended civil society and the defense and security forces for the crucial role they played, and the international community for its support to CAR. He urged all influential parties in the country to demonstrate solidarity, avoid violence and follow legal means in the settlement of any election disputes. He also called on them to accept the results of the poll in order to preserve peace and stability in the country. In the end, the Secretary General reiterated the OIC’s constant support to CAR for the achievement of stability, socio-economic development and national reconciliation. It is worth mentioning that the OIC dispatched an expert mission to observe elections in CAR.
