The President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan who was on an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, received the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani and his accompanying delegation in Jeddah on 30 December 2015.
During the meeting, the Secretary General expounded his views on an array of major issues on the OIC agenda, particularly the pressing political developments including countering extremism and terrorism at different levels.
The two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues foremost of which was the issue of Palestine especially the recent developments relating to Al-Quds. Meeting noted the series of visits being conducted by the OIC Contact Group on Palestine to a number of capitals to support the Palestinian cause and convey OIC’s position on the Palestine and Al-Quds.
President Erdogan reiterated his unequivocal support for the OIC and its wide-ranging initiatives to advance peace and development and urged the OIC to continue its efforts to provide an effective mechanism to strengthen fraternal bonds of solidarity among the Member states.
Both sides deliberated on the ways and means for promoting greater intra-OIC cooperation in various domains and reviewed the status of the new Program of Action for the next decade which is now in its final stages. They further exchanged views on the preparations for the forthcoming Islamic Summit Conference being hosted by Turkey in April 2016. The Islamic Summit is expected to consider a number of contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world with a view to evolving a collective response.
