OIC to Hold a Meeting to Assess its Plan for the Advancement of Women in the Member States

Date: 01/11/2015

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold a meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, 3-4 November 2015, to assess the implementation of the resolutions of the ministerial meetings that were held during the past 10 years on the Role of Women in the Development of the Member States as well as to review and improve the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW) which was adopted in 2008. The OIC invited all Member States, subsidiary, specialized and affiliated organs to the Intergovernmental Expert Group meeting on this issue at the General Secretariat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is expected that the outcome of this meeting will provide a comprehensive vision for the advancement of women, and the role assigned to women in the overall development process, especially in light of such challenges as illiteracy, lack of training, poor healthcare, domestic violence against women and the ongoing armed conflict and instability facing some Member States.
