OIC Attends the Opening Session of SND Conference

Date: 11/10/2015

At the invitation of the Government of Sudan, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated with a delegation headed by Ambassador Abdullah Alim, the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, in the opening session of the Conference of Sudan National Dialogue (SND) held Saturday, 10 October 2015 in Khartoum. Ambassador Abdullah Alim pointed out that the OIC participation in this meeting comes in line with the CFM resolutions especially that on solidarity with Sudan adopted in the recent CFM session in Kuwait last May, which confirmed the OIC support for the process of national dialogue in Sudan. Alim praised the courageous and responsible attitudes of the parties that declared their commitment to national dialogue, and reiterated the OIC invitation to the parties that did not participate and those that still carry weapons to undertake their historical responsibilities in front of the people of Sudan. He called them to assume a spirit of sacrifice and reconciliation at this critical juncture of the history of Sudan and utilize this favorable opportunity to achieve peace in Sudan through participation in the comprehensive national dialogue process being the only option to resolve all the country's issues. He asserted that the rejection of dialogue would bring Sudan back to violence that has brought only instability and disrupted development in the country. Ambassador Alim stressed the OIC commitment to harness all its capabilities to support constructive dialogue between the people of Sudan to promote peace and stability in Sudan, one of the founding countries of OIC and to realize the principle of Islamic solidarity.
