OIC Ambassadorial Group in New York Appeal for Immediate Release of Palestinian Journalist Muhammad Al-Qiq

The Ambassadorial Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expresses its grave concern over the alarming reports about the seriously deteriorating health conditions and well-being of the Palestinian journalist Muhammad Al-Qiq who has been on a continuous hunger strike for 77 days in protest against his arbitrary punishment of administrative detention by the Israeli occupation authorities. It is being reported that Mr. Al-Qiq’s health is in serious danger due to torture and confinement conditions being imposed on him in Israeli detention. He has been hospitalized due to severe deterioration in his health, including internal bleeding of organs and low blood sugar....

The OIC Regrets Delay in Syrian Negotiations

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed its regret that the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, had to suspend the negotiations aimed at settling the Syrian crisis to 25 February 2016. The Secretary General, Iyad Ameen Madani, invited all Syrian parties to place the interests of the Syrian people above all other considerations, to reach an agreement that would stop the bloodshed, ensure the security and unity of Syria and save it from external intervention in line with Vienna agreements, Geneva declaration and Security Council Resolution No 2254.

OIC Secretary General discuss issues of Muslim community in Australia

At the last stop in Sydney of his four-day official visit to Australia, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani met the Governor of New South Wales, Hon David Hurley AC DSC at the Government House. They discussed issues concerning the Muslim community in light of events in the Middle East and how it is affecting them. The Governor stressed that all communities are respected, maintain their identity and are integrated in a multicultural society. The Secretary General on his part emphasized that citizens of any country should be loyal to that country and at the same time have rights that should be respected.
