The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, strongly condemned the continuing terrorist operations and infringement of the constitutional legitimacy in the Republic of Yemen. He denounced Houthis’ storming of the presidential palace, kidnapping and attempted murder of Yemeni political figures, use of violence against state institutions and seizing security and defense weapons and equipment. He considered this a coup against legitimacy that would only undermine the political process in Yemen. The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani welcomed the first round of the Libyan political dialogue held in Geneva on 14-15 January 2015 under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He reiterated the support of the OIC to the efforts of Mr. Bernadino Leon, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis. Mr. Madani emphasized the importance of national reconciliation and reaching a political solution in Libya to end the violence and instability and urged all the Libyan parties to demonstrate genuine political commitment to restore peace and stability and ensure territorial integrity of the country.
