A signing ceremony of the statute of the Women Development Organization (WDO) was held at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today, Sunday, 30 December 2012 by two Member States. Pakistan ratified the statute of the Women Development Organization (WDO) while Gambia signed the document. The WDO would be a specialized body of the OIC for the empowerment of women in the Member States and it to be based in Cairo, Egypt. More signing and ratification of the statute of the Women Development Organization are expected during the upcoming 12th Islamic Summit in Cairo in early February 2013....

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in a statement issued in Jeddah today strongly condemned the attack by radical and extremist elements on two churches in northern Nigeria on Christmas Eve killing a number of innocent civilians. Ihsanoglu said that the OIC deplored attacks on places of worship and that acts of religious hatred and intolerance went against the basic tenets of Islam which stood for tolerance and respect for all religious faiths and belief. The OIC Secretary General commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his assurances of better security in the days ahead....
