This process is geared towards consensual implementation of HRC Resolution 16/18 on combating intolerance , incitement to violence and violence based on religion or belief. The importance of the consensual adoption of this Resolution cannot be over emphasized. Neither can it be discounted as a triumph of multilateralism....

A delegation from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) paid a visit to the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah. The delegation was led by the Assistant Director of the UNHCR’s regional office in Riyadh for the Gulf States, Dr. Hamdi Bukhari, along with the official in charge of refugees’ affairs in Somalia and Kenya, Mr. Bruno Gido. Talks between the delegation and officials from the OIC General Secretariat’s Humanitarian Affairs Department centered on ways to consolidate the OIC-UNHCR Cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. Mr. Bruno briefed the OIC officials on the conditions of Somali refugees at the Dadas refugee camp in Kenya, and the conditions of refugees in general. He revealed that the UNHCR and the OIC had undertaken, for the first time, a joint interaction in which a census was taken of the displaced people driven off their homes by the effects of the prevailing famine and currently settled in (306) camps in Mogadishu, which has optimally facilitated their management and relief....

Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) noted yesterday 12 December 2011, that this coming Saturday will mark the first anniversary of Mohamad Bouazizi’s self-immolation, by setting himself on fire, thus sparking off the Arab-world revolutions. Prof. Ekmeleddin was to add, at the lecture he was delivering at the Brookings Institute in Doha, under the title of “The OIC’s Stand Towards the Developments in the Arab Region” that the label attached to the revolutions witnessed in the region, as “the Arab Spring” fails to reflect the reality that has swept over the Middle East and North Africa, and that a more accurate metaphore, in his view, should be: “The Fall Season of the Despots”...

Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation received in his office in Jeddah on Saturday, 10 December 2011, a delegation from the Republic of Gabon, comprised of Mr. Ali Radjoumba, Advisor at the Presidency, Amb. Jeannette Engandzas and Mr.Jean Robert El Mut Moutchinga Boulingui, both Advisors to the Minister of Communication. The Secretary General laid stress on his committed resolve to ensure optimal success for this conference due to be held for the first time at this level in Gabon and in Central Africa in general.
