Answering a question on the actions taken by the Organization of the Islamic Conference to counter the Israeli aggressions against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Ambassador Samir Bakr, Assistant Secretary-General for Al Quds and Palestine Affairs, said that the OIC has made a number of steps to deal with the aggressions against the holy Al Aqsa Mosque. The Secretary-General, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, examined the issue of the aggressions against Al Quds and Al Aqsa Mosque with President Jacques Chirac during their meeting last week. The Secretary-General met also with the ambassadors of Islamic States to the UNESCO in order to coordinate an Islamic effort through the UNESCO to stop the excavations presently carried out by Israel underneath and around Al Aqsa Mosque, its construction of a museum on Ma’manullah cemetery and its attempts to alter the civilizational and historical landmarks of the city of Al Quds....

A high-level delegation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference leaves for Islamabad, capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where it will hold talks with senior Pakistani officials on 13 and 14 February 2007. This is in preparation for the 34th Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers which will be hosted by Pakistan next May....

At the invitation of the Indonesian Government, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, will be undertaking an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia where he will meet with H.E. Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Speaker of the Indonesian Legislative and Consultative Council. The Secretary General will also hold a working session with H.E. Dr. Noer Hassan Wirajuda, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia....

Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), has welcomed the agreement reached by Fatah and Hamas in Mecca Al-Mukarramah under the auspices of His Majesty the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. President Mohammad Hosni Mubarak, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt received on Monday afternoon, 5th February 2007 in audiance, at the Presidency in Cairo, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu who was on a visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. Discussions in the meeting focused on the situation in Iraq and in the Middle East region in general as well as on ways to enhance the OIC performance to address the current challenges facing the Arab and Islamic World. Prof. Ihsanoglu briefed President Mubarak on the efforts underway to implement the resolutions of the 2005 Makkah Summit and to update the OIC Charter. Additionally, the Secretary General made a review of the progress achieved in the implementation of the Ten-Year Programme along with the OIC endeavours and activities. Prof. Ekmeleddin expressed his appreciation of and concurrence with the efforts contributed by President Mubarak and by Egypt under his leadership with a view to putting an end to the in-fights between the two Palestinian Movements, Fatah and Hamas. He further noted that the OIC also has an initiative aimed at ending the belligerent actions between the two movements, the restoration of calm in the streets, and the early formation of a national unity Government. The Secretary General also addressed his thanks to Egypt and its Foreign Ministry for their support and fruitful cooperation with the OIC in all spheres....

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu warned against Israel’s destruction of the bridge linking the Holy Mosque to the Moroccans’ Gate. The Secretary-General considered this measure to be an aggression against the sanctity of the place of ascension of the Prophet (peace and prayer be upon him) that may have dire consequences.
