Faculty Exchange

The Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus (METU NCC) has invited under the OIC Educational Exchange Programme academics holding professorial titles in public and private higher institutions to teach at METU NCC as visiting faculty in the following fields:

Accounting and finance
Computer science
Computer education and instructional technology Drilling and production of petroleum and natural gas Organic chemistry
Thermodynamics and heat transfer

The faculty exchange is an important component of the “OIC Educational Exchange Programme: Solidarity through Academia”, which would help promote exchange of diverse expertise and experience and address faculty deficit in the universities. Visiting positions under the “OIC Faculty Programme of METU NCC” are available in the 2013- 2014 academic year for one or two regular semesters, fall and/or spring.

Candidates should apply not later than May 2013 for fall and October 2013 for spring sessions. Visiting faculty is expected to teach two courses in a semester and also to engage in research activities and dissemination of knowledge in the form of seminars and presentations.

Academics from OIC Member States are invited to teach at the Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus (METU NCC) as visiting faculty in the following fields:

Accounting and finance
Computer science
Computer education and instructional technology Drilling and production of petroleum and natural gas Organic chemistry

Thermodynamics and heat transfer

Academics holding professorial titles (Full, Associate, Assistant Professors) in a public or private higher education institution of Member States, and who have teaching and research experience in any of the above fields may apply directly via e-mail to the address nccacpos@metu.edu.tr, with “OIC Faculty Exchange Program of METU NCC” written in the subject field. Application files should contain, a cover letter, recent CV including the list of publications, and the names and addresses of three referees.

Visiting positions will be available in the 2013-2014 academic year for one or two regular semesters, Fall and/or Spring. Candidates should apply not later than May 2013 for Fall and October 2013 for spring commencement. Visiting faculty are expected to teach two courses in a semester, typically corresponding to 6 contact hours a week, and also to engage in research activities and dissemination of knowledge in the form of seminars and presentations.

Remuneration will include a monthly salary commensurate with rank (6000TL, 5250 TL and 4500 TL net salaries for Full, Associate and Assistant Professors, respectively; all taxes and social security payments being additionally covered by METU NCC), return ticket from the country of origin to Northern Cyprus, fully furnished on-campus housing with a very modest rent (ranging between i250-400 TL depending on the size), and on office in academic buildings.

Academics offered a visiting position are required to submit an original letter of consent from their current institutions indicating that permission is granted for the faculty to carry out teaching and research activities at METU NCC during the agreed period.

METU and METU NCC

Middle East Technical University (METU) is one of Turkey’s most prestigious state universities which enjoy a world-wide reputation. Recently, METU was listed among the top 100 world universities by the Times Higher Education in its 2012 Reputation Ranking. Since its establishment in Ankara in 1956, the university had over the years trained thousands of international students in addition to its one hundred thousand national alumni. In 2005 METU has established a new campus in Northern Cyprus under the name Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus (METU NCC) with a more focused international mission.

METU Northern Cyprus Campus is attached to the main campus in Ankara in all academic and administrative affairs. All degree programs of METU NCC are approved by the METU Senate, and provide the same quality standards of the main campus in Ankara. The METU NCC academic staff are recruited and promoted in accordance to the same criteria set forth by METU Senate and Administrative Board. The graduates of METU NCC are entitled to receive the internationally recognized METU diploma undersigned by the METU Rector in Ankara.

The medium of instruction at METU is English and US credit-hour system is employed. Duration of undergraduate study is four academic years (eight semesters) for all degree programs.

Academic Year consists of two regular semesters and an optional Summer Session. Fall semester begins in mid-September and ends in late January, whereas Spring semester extend from February to mid-June.
METU NCC campus is located approximately 50 km west of Lefkosa (Nicosia), and is built on a magnificent hill with an area of 339 hectares (137 acres) commanding a beautiful view of the Mountain range to the south, the Mediterranean Sea to the west and a lovely valley filled with ancient olive trees to the north. In addition to its state of the art education and lab facilities, METU NCC offers all the amenities of high-tech information services, such as digital library, widespread access to computing, high-speed internet and cable TV. Indoor and outdoor sports facilities, the Cultural and Convention Center, cafeteria, and shopping area provide a pleasing range of social, cultural and sports facilities to the staff and students.
