The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the attack on the Joint Operational Mechanism (JOM) camp in Gao, which killed more than 60 people and injured more than a hundred on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, and the attack at Goudam also on Wednesday where three people were killed and three others wounded.
The Secretary-General, Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen expressed his grave concern at this situation, which he considered to be an attack on the peace process in Mali, and made an urgent appeal to the Malian authorities to ensure that those responsible for these acts were arrested, brought to justice and severely punished in accordance with the law. He further stressed the need to deploy all efforts to eradicate terrorism in Mali with the support of the international community.
The Secretary General expressed his condolences and solidarity with the Government of Mali, as well as his compassion for the grieving families. He assured the Malian parties of the sustained support of the OIC for the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali.
