Urgent OIC Humanitarian Campaign in favour of Gaza

At the initiative of the OIC Secretary General, and subsequent to the Expanded Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee at the level of Foreign Ministers on the on-going Israeli assault on Gaza held at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the 3rd January 2009 which issued a Final Communiqué strongly condemning the Israeli assault on the Palestinian people in Gaza resulting in the loss of hundreds of innocent civilians, colossal destruction of homes and places of worship and requested the General Secretariat to coordinate relief efforts with civil society organizations in Member States to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people and expressing appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by Member States since the beginning of the Israeli aggression.

A protracted campaign to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people of Gaza at this critical moment has been initiated and a humanitarian convoy is due to be despatched to Gaza on Tuesday 13th January, 2009. Arrangements are also underway to open an OIC Humanitarian Coordination Office at Arish near the Egyptian Rafa’a Border shortly.

Consequently, all Muslims and philanthropists around the world are invited to actively partake in the relief programme underway and to provide the OIC General Secretariat with updates on whatever aid (in cash or in kind) that you are able to extend, so that this may be included in a comprehensive and coordinated humanitarian programme in aid of the suffering people of Gaza.
